Alex Kampouris

Career: 
Played in the big leagues for parts of nine seasons with four teams, including the Dodgers from 1941 to 1943.

Did you know? Was the first person of Greek descent to play in the big leagues, making his debut on July 31, 1934 ... hit three homers and drove in eight runs in a single game on May 9, 1937 ... served in the US Army during WWII, missing the entire 1944 and 1945 seasons.

Post-game: Worked for the Sacramento City Parks Department, the City Engineering Department, and then for nearly 20 years as a marshal in the Sacramento County's Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1972 ... was inducted into the Sacramento HOF in 1970, the AHEPA Athletic HOF in 1976, and the La Salle Club HOF in 1977 ... died of a heart attack at age 80 on May 29, 1993.
