Freddie Fitzsimmons

Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of 19 seasons with the Giants (1925-37) and Dodgers (1937-43).

Did you know? Nicknamed "Fat-Freddie" back in the days when body-shaming was socially accepted, if not tolerated ... led the NL in winning percentage in 1930 (.731) and again 10 years later in 1940 (.889).

Post-game: Managed in the big leagues, served as a general manager for a professional football team, and thereafter returned to coach in the big leagues and manage in the minor leagues during a span of 19 years, retiring in 1966 ...  appeared in a 1976 episode of The Way It Was, a weekly PBS sports nostalgia television show hosted by Curt Gowdy ... died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at age 78 on November 18, 1979.
