Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of 10 seasons with the Dodgers (1945, 1947-51, 1953-54) and Orioles (1955-56).

Appeared in two games, both as a pinch-runner in April 1945, shortly after his 17th birthday ... blanked the Phillies on two-hits and belted a grand slam home run on September 24, 1950 ... served in the US Army during the Korean War, missing the entire 1952 season and part of 1953 ... his son Wayne and grandson Tommy played in the minor leagues, as did four of his brothers and two nephews.
Post-game: Worked as a longshoreman in Southern California ... died of a heart attack at age 52 on May 29, 1982.
