George Stallings

Career: Appeared in four games as a player with Brooklyn in 1890 and in three games as a player-manager with the Phillies during the 1897 and 1898 seasons.

Did you know? One of the few managers in major league history to abandon the uniform and instead wear a suit and tie while skippering his teams from the dugout ... credited with pioneering the practice of platooning as a managerial strategy ... led the the Miracle Boston Braves to its first and (as it later tuned out) only World Series title.

Post-game: Managed professionally for 35 years, including for 13 seasons at the big league level ... died of heart disease at age 61 on May 13, 1929.
