Carmen Mauro

Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of four seasons with four  teams, including a brief eight game stint with the Dodgers in 1953.

Did you know? His first big league hit was an inside the park home run off the Cardinals' Murry Dickson at Sportsman's Park on October 3, 1951 ... Tommy Lasorda was his roommate at Montreal in 1952.

Post-game: Served as the head baseball coach at the University of Washington while earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education from the school, taught at Merced Junior College for one year, and thereafter, at one point or another, served as athletic director, chairman of the physical education division, coached football and baseball, and taught health and physical education classes at Cuesta College (San Luis Obispo, CA) for 22 years, retiring in 1987 ... died at the age of 77 on December 19, 2003.
