Dixie Howell

Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of eight seasons with three teams, including the Dodgers in 1953, 1955 and 1956.

Did you know? Given name was Homer Elliott Jr. ... served in the US Army during WWII, missing the entire 1944-45 seasons ... won a World Series title with the Dodgers in 1955, the team's first and only championship in Brooklyn ... his son Louis was a minor league catcher in the Yankees organization. 

Post-game: Worked as a scout for the Milwaukee Braves and Houston Colt 45s, managed briefly in the minor leagues, worked as a salesman for various Louisville companies and later served as the Vice President of Pee Wee Reese Associates, an insurance firm headed by his former teammate and a fellow Kentuckian ... was inducted into the Male High School HOF in 1988 ... died on October 7, 1990 at age 70.
