Rocky Nelson

Career: Played in the big leagues for nine seasons with five teams, including two stints with the Dodgers in 1952 and 1956.

Did you know? Married wife Alberta at home plate prior to an exhibition game at the Lynchburg Cardinals' home ballpark on August 25, 1947 ... was named MVP of the International League in 1953, 1955, and 1958, winning the loop's triple crown the latter two seasons ... hit a two-run home run in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series against the Yankees, a game the Pirates would eventually win, 10-9, to clinch the championship.

Post-game: Owned and operated a steakhouse in the mid-1960s and thereafter worked as a painting contractor in his hometown of Portsmouth, OH ... was inducted into the International League HOF in 1960, the Canadian Baseball HOF in 1980 and the Ohio Baseball HOF in 1981 ... died at age 81 on October 31, 2006.
