Jack Banta

Career: Played in the big leagues for four seasons with the Dodgers (1947-50).

Did you know? Was the winning pitcher in the Dodgers' 11-inning NL pennant clinching, 3-2, victory over the Phillies on the last day of the 1949 season ... made three relief appearances during the 1949 World Series against the Yankees.

Post-game: Worked as a scout and minor league manager for the Dodgers, and thereafter as an accountant for a supermarket chain in his hometown of Hutchinson, Kansas, retiring in 1989 ... was inducted into the Kansas Baseball HOF in 2004 ... died of heart disease at age 81 on September 17, 2006.
