Sandy Amoros

Career:
Played for the Dodgers for parts of seven seasons (1952, 1954-57, 1959-60), before finishing his big league career with the Tigers in 1960.

Did you know? First name was Edmundo but was nicknamed Sandy because of his resemblance to featherweight boxing champion Sandy Saddler ... hit two-run home run in Game 3 of the 1955 World Series over the Yankees ...  ... made a game-saving diving catch off a Yogi Berra line drive, starting a double play, in the seventh game of the 1955 World Series.

Post-game: Worked for a TV shop in the South Bronx, the Parks Department in the Bronx, and thereafter lived off his big league pension, unemployment compensation and by working menial jobs ... died of pneumonia on June 27, 1992 at the age of 62.
