Ed Carne

Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of eight seasons with seven teams, including a brief two-game stint with Brooklyn in 1892.

Did you know?  Nicknamed "Cannonball" because of his ability to throw hard ... participated in Albert Spalding's famous world tour of 1888-1889 ... posted a pair of 200-walk seasons and was a two-time 20-game winner ... led the American Association with a stellar 2.45 earned run average in 1891.

Post-game: Worked as an umpire in the Eastern League ... died at age 34 on September 20, 1896 after overdosing on prescription medication.
