George LaChance

Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of 12 seasons with four teams, including Brooklyn from 1893 to 1898.

Did you know? Was the starting first baseman on Boston's first-ever World Series championship team in 1903 ... was the first player to hit a sacrifice fly in World Series competition in the first-ever World Series game on October 1, 1903.

Post-game: Worked briefly as a minor league umpire and later as a night watchman at a metalworks factory in Waterbury, CT .... died of coronary failure at age 63 on August 18, 1932.
