Willie Keeler

Career: Played in the big leagues for parts of 19 seasons with four teams, including Brooklyn in 1893 and again from 1899 to 1902.

Did you know? Nicknamed "Wee Willie" because of his small size (5-foot-4, 140 pounds) ... hit .300 or higher for 13 straight seasons and collected more than 200 hits and 100 runs for eight straight seasons ... his .424 batting average in 1897 is the highest single season mark by a left-handed batter in major league history.

Post-game: Worked as a scout and coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers for a couple of seasons, coached the Brooklyn Tip Tops of the Federal League, and then scouted for the Boston Braves and New York Yankees, while tending to his real estate interests ... died of chronic endocarditis at age 50 on January 1, 1923 ... was inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 1939.
